Organic materials
What are organic materials?
Basic structures are created from cellulose, tannin, cutin, and lignin, along with other various proteins, lipids, and sugars, as plants and animals and their waste products in the environment. Conversely, urea is one of many organic compounds that can be synthesized without any biological activity.

What are examples of organic compounds?
Natural compounds

Carbohydrates, lipids, protein, and nucleic acids.

Further compounds of prime importance in biochemistry are antigens, carbohydrates, enzymes, hormones, lipids and fatty acids, neurotransmitters, nucleic acids, proteins, peptides and amino acids, lectins, vitamins, and fats and oils.

Synthetic organic compounds

Polymers (plastics and rubbers)
Saturated hydrocarbons or alkanes
Unsaturated hydrocarbons: alkenes and alkynes
Cycloalkanes

What are biomolecules?
A biomolecule is any molecule produced by an organism's biological processes.

What are examples of biomolecules?
1. Carbohydrates
2. Lipids
3. Proteins
4. Nucleic acid
Examples of organic materials are:
Antibiotics and vitamins
Cosmetics
Dyes and pigments
Foodstuffs (fats, proteins, carbohydrates)
Fuels
Fabrics (cotton, wool, rayon, nylon, polyesters)
Greases and lubricating oils
Perfumes and flavours
Paints, varnishes and lacquers
Plastics and elastomer
Soaps and detergents
Some agricultural chemicals (some fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides)
Some explosives
Wood and paper products
